iPad eRx: Adding Medications to Patient Medication List

While using the iPad, you may notice one of the following issues:

  1. When using the iPad eRx feature, new medications are not added to the medication list.
  2. The patient medication list becomes filled with duplicates while using the iPad eRx feature.

All these issues may be addressed with the 'Enable New eRx' with the iPad, available in the drchrono EHR version 10.0.39 or higher (viewable from the 3-line menu). By default, 'Enable New eRx' is disabled.

Activating the 'Enable New eRx' Setting

To turn on the 'Enable New eRx' setting, first select the 3-line menu icon in the upper right hand corner.

From the menu, select the 'Settings' button.

From the settings page, find the switch titled 'Enable New eRx' and switch it to ON (green). After this setting is enabled, your iPad prescriptions should now appear in the patient chart.

Using the 'Enable New eRx' Setting

To begin using the 'Enable New eRx' setting, first navigate to a patient's Medications list (Patient Profile > Menu (left-hand corner) > 'Medications & Allergies'.

Select the eRx button shown below to bring up the prescriptions page.

With 'Enable New eRx' disabled, the prescriptions page will look like this:

With 'Enable New eRx' enabled, the prescriptions page will have an added 'Add to Patient Medication List' button switch alongside some UI/usability changes.

When the 'Add to Patient Medication List' is active (green), when the eRx is submitted, the medication will be added to the medication list. This is used to add new, frequently used medications to the medication list.

When the 'Add to Patient Medication List' is inactive (white), when the eRx is submitted, the medication will not be added to the medication list. This is used to prevent duplicates and keep uncommon medications out of the medication list.
