You can electronically prescribe medications through the DrChrono EHR app. To do so, you need to have eRx set up. If you haven't set up eRx yet, follow the instructions in our guide here.
Create a New Prescription
Enter the EHR through the navigation bar on your iPad, and then navigate to a patient's chart.
Tap their name to reveal a drop-down menu and then select Send eRx. This will bring you to the new eRx page.
Once you're at the new eRx page, fill out the form with your desired medication, your sig, the quantity, unit, and refills. When you're done, select Preview in the upper right-hand corner.
On the Preview page, review your prescription information, and then select Interactions at the top of the page. Check your interactions and when you verify everything to be correct, select Send on the upper right-hand corner.
Resend Prescriptions from the Active Medication List
- Tap the patient's name.
- Medications
- Tap the Rx icon for the medication you want to prescribe.
- Preview
- Send or press and hold Send for options to print prescription or fax to pharmacy
OR
- To print the prescription, tap the printer icon () and select the page size to print.
Note: If a medication is resent from the medication list using an outdated National Drug Code (NDC), an alert will notify the user that the medication is obsolete.
Alert Indicators
- Red warning: The drug is not searchable.
- Orange warning: The drug name is converted based on the NDC.
The newly generated medication order will appear in the Active Medication Orders list. The original compound medication order will then show in the Past Medication Orders list with a status of "inactive" and an "end date" of when it was resent.
