Each year, AMA releases new and revised codes that reflect what is happening in medicine and upon feedback received from medical providers. New technology, new viruses/illnesses, and new understandings are all considered when codes are either created and/or revised.
For 2022, there will be 249 new codes, 63 deleted codes, and 93 revised codes. In total, there are a total of 405 editorial changes included in the 2022 CPT code set. The new codes will include those created as a result of COVID-19.
To help providers and billers understand the upcoming changes, the AMA is holding informational sessions during November 2022. You can find additional information here. There are many sources of information, with the AMA being only one.
The updates will be available in DrChrono as of 1/01/2022. COVID-19 related codes will continue to be added as they are released.
