Prescribing Compound Medications (Web)

The New Drug Database is Now Available in DrChrono!

In partnership with First Databank MedKnowledge (new drug database), DrChrono now supports the ability to electronically send compound medications that contain a controlled substance.

How to e-prescribe a compound medication

All compound medication/s must be prescribed via the Compound (type) option.

1. From the patient chart, navigate to Send eRx.

2. Choose Compound as the "type"

3. Once selected the Compound Parts dropdown will appear

4. When building a compound medication, the user will want to select the individual ingredients/medications first. This allows DrChrono to determine the DEA schedule for each ingredient. Each medication/ingredient will be a "Compound part". As compound parts are selected, the medication name will update to add the compound part.

5. Use the "+" and/or " - " buttons to add/remove the Compound Part(s)

Note:

  • If the compound part is a controlled substance the system will indicate the level.
  • If the compound medication/ingredient does not have any schedule II-V compound parts in it, the user will have to select the "There is no controlled substance within the compound prescription" checkbox in order to send the prescription.

  • The user can select the "Add to Favorites" checkbox to quickly prescribe the new compound medication in the future.

8. Select a Pharmacy.

9. Press the Preview button to Preview the Prescription.

10. For a controlled substance, select the Ready to Sign checkbox and then press the Send Prescription/Print button.
