What is MIPS?

Getting started with MIPS ( 6 steps)

The Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) is a program that will score your performance in 4 different areas:

The points allocated for each category will shift over time. The 4 performance categories make up your final MIPS score. Your final MIPS score determines the financial adjustment made to your Medicare Part B claims. The higher your score, the lower the adjustment.

Performance for MIPS will start on January 1 - December 31 and will annually measure eligible providers in four performance categories to derive an MIPS Score (0 to 100). The MIPS score can significantly impact a provider’s Medicare payments from a -9% penalty up to a 9% increase.
