RecordSync Overview

RecordSync is a bi-directional document exchange feature integrated with the Surescripts Record Locator & Exchange (RLE), a health information exchange (HIE), enabling providers to access and share patient records through the national Carequality health data exchange framework. By leveraging HL7® FHIR® standard transactions, RecordSync allows clinicians to query trusted data sources across connected healthcare systems and retrieve comprehensive patient information—such as previous encounters, diagnoses, lab results, allergies, medications, immunizations, and other treatments—directly into DrChrono. This ensures providers have a complete clinical picture to support informed care decisions, while allowing retrieved documents to be merged or saved into the patient chart.

At the same time, RecordSync supports secure, real-time, bidirectional data exchange in a hub-and-spoke model, enabling outside providers to access relevant records from your practice when they are also connected to Carequality and treating the same patient. This interoperability reduces barriers to information sharing across organizations and enhances care coordination.

Eligible clinicians can attest to the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Promoting Interoperability (PI) performance category for the Health Information Exchange (HIE) requirement by participating in the RecordSync bi-directional exchange.  Learn more about RecordSync and MIPS PI.
