The DrChrono patient platform launched an open FHIR API so patients can securely download their available health records to the Apple Health app on iPhones. Once patients log in to the Health app, they no longer need to log in to OnPatient to consolidate and view their health information from their iOS devices.
If you choose to discontinue the integration, new records don't continue to update. Older records that have been shared belong to the patient.
Patients must be invited to OnPatient to use the Health Records on iPhones feature within the Apple Health app.
Register an organization for Health Records on iPhones
When you register your organization for Health Records on iPhones, your organization can be featured in the Health Records directory in the Health app. Once your organization is published in the Health app, your patients can search for your organization, authenticate using their patient portal credentials, and download their health records. Registration is only available to healthcare organizations in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. For detailed instructions visit Apple Registration Guide for Health Records.
- Go to Health Records and select Get Started.
- Sign in to your Apple account.
Create and use an Apple account exclusively for this purpose. Go to Apple Account, and then select Create Your Apple Account.
Every person who signs in to the Health Records registration webpage should create their own separate Apple account (although separate Apple accounts aren’t required). If every person has their own Apple account, and one of them leaves your organization, any remaining administrative contacts can remove the departing person’s access to your organization’s registration data.
The terms of use agreement page opens.
- To agree with the terms, select the I agree to the Terms of Use checkbox and then select Agree.
The Health Records application page opens.
- Select Get Started.
- On the Tell us more about your organization page:
- Select healthcare organization as the type of organization.
- For the question, How many FHIR API endpoints do you support? Select One FHIR-API endpoint.
- For the question How many EHR vendors do you have? Select one EHR vendor or a different option based on your business.
- Add organization details and upload brand logo and location information.
- Accept the Health Records Directory Listing agreement or forward it to your legal signing authority.
- If you are adding multiple FHIR API endpoints, you are asked to name your FHIR API endpoint to distinguish it from others and select DrChrono as your EHR vendor.
- Review how your organization will appear in the Health app and update by selecting edit. Once the review is complete, select reviewed.
- When prompted to request an access code, select Request Access Code. For security reasons, the Apple access code is sent to the primary email contact stored in DrChrono.
Our team verifies your request. Once approved, you receive a confirmation email with the access code.
- Once you receive your code, return to your account to enter the code and select Done.
- Select Start test and once the test is complete, submit the application for review.
Upon approval, you receive marketing materials, a preview link, and an email with the option to publish at a later date. If no action is taken, your organization will be published within three days, and you receive confirmation that it has been published.
- If you wish to change the publication date, sign in to Apple Business Register and select Publish Now or Publish later. When you select Publish later, you can set a date that is within 30 days.
